The idea is that each player forms their own poker hand by drawing five out of the seven cards. This would be the five community cards, plus the two hold cards.

Basic Online Poker Terms

There are certain card terms in online poker that players should be familiar with such as “bet”, “fold”, “call” or “raise”. Placing a bet means that you put one wager into the pot. Players then interact with you by calling you out on that bet or by folding their cards. The term “Check” is used when players make the decision not to throw a bet into the pot and if none of the players bet, the online poker game will continue with all players still interacting throughout the rest of the hand. If there is a bet specifically made to you; as the player, you can choose to “fold” (this means you throw no additional monies into the pot and you are out of that corresponding hand).

You can also choose to “call” if you have the right card combinations, which means you equal the amount of the pot with the money that’s already been wagered and you stay in the hand. If you “raise” a bet that is put to you, that translates to entering money into the pot that is equal to the other player’s bets, plus additional bonus money. When it comes time for another player to take their turn though, they may also re-raise your bet as well. During online poker play, you can either experience a so called “Showdown” or “win by default”. Poker online can be played with card players of all skill levels. Beginners should always start themselves off with low limit games. Low limit games are poker games that require only minimal bet sizes per player for each hand that is played. Novice players should just try and play honest and simple games and make sure you know your cards before attempting aggressive bets. Trying to be a “Slickhand Luke” or using fancy bluffs will only serve to hurt your strategy. Use the odds of the pot to your advantage for any card drawing decisions.
