Session

A flat bet, the house edge for the rules you set, and the swing around the average. This is a basic-strategy sitting. It is not a card-counting spread.

Dealer on 17

Six decks, double any two cards, the rest of the rules match a friendly table. The full rule form is the house-edge calculator.

House edge

0.46%

Over a long enough run, that edge spends the bankroll. One session is mostly the swing.

Average loss per hand

A$0.05

Average loss per hour

A$4

At 80 hands an hour.

Hours to spend it

50

Bankroll divided by the average loss per hour. A short session can end sooner, or finish ahead.

Average loss, 100 hands

A$5

What the edge takes out of a hundred bets.

A typical swing, 100 hands

A$115

About 1.15 bets, times the square root of the hands. Side bets and variants run wider.

Chance of finishing ahead

48%

After those 100 hands. An approximation.

About 2.8% of one-hour sessions lose the whole bankroll. An hour here is 80 hands.

Questions

Will the session last as many hours as the figure says?

That figure is the bankroll divided by the average loss per hour. A short run can lose the bankroll sooner, or leave you ahead. The swing next to the average is the size of that uncertainty.

Does raising the bet after a loss remove the edge?

No. The edge on each hand stays the same. A larger bet spends the session faster. The bankroll guide walks through one doubled sequence and where a table maximum stops it.

What if the count is on my side?

A count can put the edge on your side for some shoes. That is a different page. This one is a basic-strategy session.
